總結:ABSTRACT | This manuscript highlights the importance of family aquaculture as a sustainable model that contributes to food security and rural development. Family aquaculture has been a central axis in sustainable rural development policies, adapting to different countries and directly contributing to food security and self-sufficiency in rural areas, generating employment and improving incomes in countries such as Vietnam, Brazil, Peru, and Nigeria. In Colombia, aquaculture regulations have recently advanced, including guidelines on animal welfare and biosecurity, and incentives for small-scale aquaculturists. However, the Colombian rural sector faces challenges such as poverty and inequality, which require coherent public policies that promote sustainability and economic development. Family aquaculture systems offer an opportunity to improve food security and the well-being of rural communities but need more government support and access to financial resources to overcome obstacles such as climate change and diseases. In conclusion, family aquaculture has the potential to be a key pillar for sustainable economic development and food security in rural and urban areas of Colombia.
