Samenvatting: | The objective of this research is to analyze the effect of external public debt on economic inequality in Latin America in the period 2000-2020 with the estimation of the panel data econometric model. The data was obtained especially from the World Bank and the United Nations Program. The corruption perception index, Human Development Index, labor participation rate, and Gross Domestic Product were used as instrumental variables. Among the main findings, it was verified that public debt directly affects inequality, with significant effects of variables such as GDP and the Human Development Index. However, the explanatory variables such as the labor participation rate and the corruption index were not significant, which shows the importance of boosting the economy in fundamental aspects such as the renegotiation of the external debt that allows a better allocation of resources and strengthens policies of generation of jobs that strengthen the income and well-being of the Latin American region.
