Este hecho ha favorecido la aparición de una nueva criminalidad, caracterizada por el fraude y la corrupción, vinculada a la manipulación de competiciones y a las apuestas deportivas. Ante esto, se ha visto incrementada la preocupación internacional por combatir estos comportamientos.
