Esta complejidad justifica que se la entienda como una “tecnología de género”. En este artículo abordo algunas de las formas en que el funcionamiento de la cirugía estética se encuadra en −y contribuye a (re)producir− determinadas representaciones de género, enfocándome en la prensa gráfica femenina. En particular, analizo las variantes de la función pedagógica que se manifiestan en el discurso de una revista especializada en prácticas médicas de embellecimiento. A estos efectos, aplico el principio de la modalización desarrollado en el marco de la gramática narrativa de la semiótica estructuralista.A cirurgia estética é um fenômeno complexo, múltiplo e heterogêneo: ao mesmo tempo, prática médica, prática da beleza e prática do consumo. Essa complexidade justifica que ela seja entendida como uma "tecnologia de gênero"".
