description This article is a reflection about the mediated communication processes that occur among different cultures looking for understanding these processes from an intercultural perspective, since the media, from their globalizing processes and a Western world-view, have become one of the main agents in the social construction of reality. Theoretical grounds on the way a piece of news is spread when it has an institutional burden –from the State, which defends the identity of the Western culture– coming from the construction of an essential Westernalised cultural identity are discussed. A de-Westernalised intercultural journalism that would allow for the creation and teaching of ways to understand published news on “cultural difference” from a dialogical and heterogeneous point of view is presented.
