Description
Summary:The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Central University of Ecuador commemorates 332 years of history, reaffirming its humanistic, scientific, and social mission. Founded in 1693, during a time when access to knowledge was limited, it was a pioneer in formal medical education. From its beginnings, it has evolved alongside the country's social and political changes, training generations of professionals committed to health as a fundamental right. Figures like Eugenio Espejo promoted a critical and compassionate view of medicine. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the Faculty embraced scientific advancements, promoted specialties, research, and clinical internships, and faced epidemics and social transformations. In the 21st century, it adapted its programs to a comprehensive health approach, emphasizing human rights and equity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it once again demonstrated its deep commitment to life. Today, it is more than an academic institution—it is a symbol of hope, knowledge, and social justice for the Ecuadorian people and the world. Long live the Faculty!
