Izvleček:Currently, Ecuadorian society is immersed in a series of profound changes in order to achieve Good Living and wellbeing, where the ability to acquire and apply knowledge is recognized more clearly than in other historical moments. A decisive factor for the eco-nomic, social and cultural transformation of the country is the construction of the knowledge society with social cohesion and inclusion, by strengthening the capacities and potentialities of the population. The knowledge society raises new conditions in educa-tion, especially universities, where there is a need for constant improvement of the knowledge base to innovate, grow and give equal opportunities, which in turn, raises the need to establish new forms of management of and for learning. These new ways of gen-erating knowledge according to the process of internationalization of science, is favored by the development and massification of information and communication technologies, where social knowledge networks germinate and develop. This paper reflects on concepts of the knowledge society and social networks, particularly social knowledge networks. It also examines the potential of these networks as a strategy to incorporate knowledge, innovations and creations that allow the growth and academic progress of the actors in-volved in higher education.
