| description | Ecuadorian lawyer María Belén Bernal Otavalo was murdered at the National Police School in Quito on September 11, 2002, allegedly at the hands of her husband, a member of the police. This femicide has convulsed Ecuador, even though every 28 hours a woman dies of gender violence. This article presents an analysis of this case from a feminist perspective combined with the so-called affective turn. My argument is that in this process the tears that we live as a society come to the fore, I have noticed that this femicide has been invested with indignation and exposure an “intimate public sphere” by their mother and feminist groups, in an attempt to raise awareness in society and in the search for the assumption of political responsibility by state agents and institutions; while on the government side a manifest indifference has prevailed with a view to minimizing and excluding the feminist agenda from the publica political arena. |

La abogada ecuatoriana María Belén Bernal Otavalo fue asesinada en la Escuela de la Policía Nacional en Quito el 11 de septiembre de 2022, presuntamente a manos de su esposo, miembro de la policía. Este feminicidio ha convulsionado al Ecuador, a pesar de que cada 28 horas muere una mujer por violencia de género. Este artículo presenta un análisis de este caso desde una perspectiva feminista conjugada con el denominado giro afectivo. Mi argumento es que en este proceso afloran los desgarramientos que vivimos como sociedad, he advertido que a este feminicidio se lo ha investido de indignación y de exposición a una “esfera pública íntima” por parte de su madre y los grupos feministas en un intento de sensibilizar a la sociedad, y en la búsqueda de asunción de responsabilidad política de agentes e instituciones estatales; mientras del lado del gobierno ha primado una indiferencia manifiesta con miras a minimizar y excluir a la agenda feminista de la arena pública política.
