New strategic thinking and regional reconfiguration

This paper deals with contemporary political and economic processes in Latin America, which would be foreshadowing a new regionalism manifested in the various national and multilateral processes and in the dynamics of integration and development cooperation schemes. In response to the hemispheric vision of the so-called inter-American system, the debate has opened on a new regional concept, both from the point of view of identity as well as from the economic and geostrategic projection of countries and their societies. Elements of a Latin American thinking with a strategic identity are visible, which strive to transcend the orientation of interstate political consensus and multilateral institutionalism, in the pursuit of greater autonomy in the construction of the region. The strategic priorities of the Latin American region compromise the definition of regional interest in the common problems of development, the international reinsertion of economies and the stability and integrity of the political systems in transformation.
