Resumo:Neoliberalism in the 90’s in Latin America conducted to the opening of markets and frontiers contributing to the development of drug mafias and organized crime. The organized crime has evolved under the forms of globalization such as transnationalism becoming more autonomous, flexible and innovative. This brings us to a broader discussion on the relations between State and market under neoliberalism and the capacity the State has to fight against organized crime as they act as real political actors that have corrupted the State and worsened the violence by establishing connections with armed groups. Finally, this situation under globalization makes interesting to assess the war on drugs focusing on power relations and governmentality at international level as well as on the urgent alternatives to face the problem.
