| Özet: | Introduction: obesity is one of the factors that affects the general population, if it is not corrected from an early age, it can be detrimental to the general population. Although lifestyle and medical management remain part of the initial management of obesity, these therapies have been shown to be inferior compared to bariatric and metabolic surgery for severely obese adolescents Objective: to describe the effectiveness of the use of the surgical procedure "gastric sleeve" in adolescents. Methods: a descriptive methodology is used. The information has been obtained from the PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo and Cochrane. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane. Results: A total of 54 scientific articles were analyzed, of which 36 scientific articles found in the online databases were selected, all of them meeting the inclusion criteria. Discussion: The use of metabolic and bariatric surgery as a therapeutic strategy in adolescents with obesity has increased notably in recent times. Bariatric surgery is recognized as the most effective treatment from a clinical point of view, but certain criteria must be considered to perform gastric sleeve surgery. Conclusion: Gastric sleeve surgery is the most effective treatment available for severely obese adolescents and has demonstrated variable degrees of sustained long-term weight loss leading to resolution of multiple associated conditions and improved quality of life. |
