Leticia Mantuano Agricultural sector and its contribution to the economic growth of the province of Manabí - Ecuador

This article analyzes the contribution of the agricultural sector to the economic growth of Manabí, Ecuador, during 2012-2022. The study was carried out using a descriptive, evaluative and correlational methodology, using secondary data from the Central Bank of Ecuador and other official sources. The results reveal a very strong positive correlation (Pearson coefficient of 0,976) between the agricultural sector and the overall economic growth of Manabí. The sector contributed between 13,20% and 14,80% to the total Gross Added Value during the period analyzed. The study highlights the resilience of the sector in the face of challenges such as the 2016 earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic. It also points to the diversification of the sector as a strategic strength, encompassing crops such as rice, corn, banana, cocoa, and livestock activities. The main contribution is to provide a comprehensive view of the role of the agricultural sector in the Manabi economy, highlighting its importance for the economic and social stability of the region.
