Este estudio mide la productividad total de los factores del sector agropecuario y sub-sectores para los países del área Andina durante el periodo de 1971-2000, usando un índice direccional Malmquist. Los resultados indican que en la mayoría de los países hubo un estancamiento del crecimiento productivo entre 1970 hasta mediado s de la década de los ochenta. Sin embargo, durante la década de los noventa, la mayoría de países muestran importantes ganancias en productividad. De estos, el sector más dinámico ha sido el sector pecuario, especialmente el sector de producción de cerdos y aves.
