description The perception of immigration as a problem can constitute an obstacle to the coexistence and social integration of immigrants. Issues such as the influence of migration in the labor market, insecurity, the rejection of cultural diversity, or gender violence, among others; they are perceived as threats to the welfare state of the target societies. In addition, they promote the stigmatization of some groups of foreign origin. That is why, beyond recognizing the main stereotypes, fears and prejudices around migration, it is important to analyze the attitudes of a society towards immigrant groups, identify the latent factors that are manifested through these attitudes and the typologies of individuals that define. To contribute to this purpose, an extensive review of the results and methodologies used in the analysis of perceptions and attitudes towards immigration in different contexts, and from various disciplines, has been carried out. The discussion focuses on the idea that tolerance to immigration can generate social benefits as fears and prejudices are reduced and trust between members of society increases.
