Tóm tắt:This study constitutes a first evaluation of the effects that international migration could have on the participation and work effort decisions of household members who remain in Ecuador and receive remittances from their relatives from abroad. The main question it seeks to answer is whether receiving remittances reduces incentives to work. The central hypothesis is that these resources would effectively reduce the work effort of the household members who remain in the country, since with more resources, individuals could decide to work fewer hours or not participate in the workforce, probably to dedicate more time to leisure. , invest in your own human capital or carry out household activities. It is based on a micro-data base, built with the national employment survey (ENEMDUR) and the international migration block of the survey of indicators of children and households (EMEDINHO), from which a model is developed neoclassical labor supply that includes two dimensions of work: labor participation that is modeled as a probit and the number of hours worked that follows an estimate of ordinary least squares corrected for sample selection errors.
