Summary:The circulation of the "euro" at the beginning of 2002 in most of the countries that signed the Maastricht Treaty "has been considered an important stage - the last one? - of the integration movement started in Europe since 1951. But the euro it must be considered more than just an instrument at the service of community exchanges, as it could be the foundation of a process of political unification. The construction of European unity, in effect, has gone through different historical phases that have led to the consecration of the market as the fundamental axis of economic functioning and the supreme dominance of the currency over other economic policies.
