Shrnutí:Higher efficiencies in irrigation systems are very important to optimize the usage of water to enhance the agricultural production. This research was carried out in the Tumbaco irrigation system, located in the province of Pichincha, Ecuador, and the objective was to determine the following efficiencies: conveyance, distribution, application, system and global. The results showed: i) the conveyance efficiency in the canal irrigation network is 78.82% (regular); ii) the distribution efficiency is 37.95% (poor), iii) the application efficiency is 60.72% (good); iv) the efficiency of the irrigation system is 47.86% (regular) and v) the global efficiency is about 18.17% (poor). In conclusion, the efficiency of the system is regular and the global efficiency poor, affected by the timing of the water delivery assigned by the water user association, which does not take into account the real discharge delivered to the users and the crop water requirements, creating inequity, conflicts between users as well as over and under irrigation.
