description The objective of this research is to identify the challenges and opportunities presented in higher education due to the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically for the Accounting and Auditing program of the Universidad Central del Ecuador. A survey containing openand closed questions was applied to a sample of 3974 students that consisted of several components: the teacher’s methodological work, the evaluation system, the technological problem, the social relationship and the learning environment. The survey includeda descriptive analysis of the subjects of the basic, formative and professionalizing areas, and provided important contributions that helped us to better understand the problem. Interesting data were revealed about economic opportunities for students because they received classes in this modality; however, there were challenges regarding access and availability of technological equipment. Finally, the research highlighted the need to ensure an adequate learning management platform, as well as constant training of teachers to strengthen innovative capabilities in their learning methodologies.

Se aplicó a una muestra de 3974 estudiantes una encuesta que contiene preguntas abiertas y cerradas, referidas a diferentes componentes: el trabajo metodológico del docente, el sistema de evaluación, el problema tecnológico, el relacionamiento social y el entorno de aprendizaje. En la encuesta se hizo un análisis descriptivo de las asignaturas de las áreas básica, formativa y profesionalizante, y se obtuvieron aportes que nos ayudan a entender mejor la problemática. Se revelaron datos relacionados con las oportunidades económicas para los estudiantes gracias a recibir clases en esta modalidad; sin embargo, se presentaron retos en lo concerniente al acceso y la disponibilidad de equipamiento tecnológico. Finalmente, la investigación reveló la necesidad de garantizar una plataforma adecuada de gestión de aprendizaje, así como la preparación constante de los docentes, para fortalecer las capacidades de innovación en sus metodologías de aprendizaje.A investigação tem como objetivo identificar os desafios e oportunidades que se apresentam na educação superior devido à pandemia da COVID-19, especificamente para a carreira de Contabilidade e Auditoria da Universidade Central do Equador. Aplicouse a uma mostra de 3974 estudantes um levantamento que contém perguntas abertas e fechadas, referidas a diferentes componentes: o trabalho metodológico do docente, o sistema de avaliação, o problema tecnológico, o relacionamento social e o entorno de aprendizado. No levantamento se fez uma análise descritiva das matérias das áreas básica, formativa y profissionalizante e se obtiveram aportes importantes que nos ajudam a entender melhor a problemática. Revelaram-se dados interessantes relacionados às oportunidades econômicas para os estudantes graças ao fato de receberem aulas nesta modalidade; todavia, se apresentaram desafios no que concerne o acesso e a disponibilidade de equipamento tecnológico.
