description This paper explores five autocracy aspects in the Ecuadorian Head of the Executive (2017-2022): military power, complying with freedom of assembly, the strength of civil society, confidence in the president, and links with the media. From a methodology point of view and information found in the Varieties of Democracy and Latinobarómetro databases, this study explores the type 2 congruence procedure proposed by Van Evera and the historical trajectory of state power since 1963. The results show that the autocracy works independently of the ideology of the government in office and that the military power no longer holds a custodial role of democracy but instead the economic and media elites who shaped the national power. Even though the social protests in October 2019 and June 2022 reflect that the indigenous movement's organization, structures, and allies react to these political scenarios, repression of civil society is and remains an indicator of autocracy in the country.
