| Sumario: | This article analyzes the reproduction strategies implemented by families in agribusiness and migration contexts in two provinces of Ecuador. The objective was to discuss the relevance of the analytical category, Family Farming (FF), which includes farmers close to the subsistence level to capitalized producers, for the analysis of rural territories. The information was collected through ethnographic work in the cantons of Pedro Moncayo, Cayambe and Nabón. A dialectical territorial approach focusing on processes of de-territorialization was used for the analysis of results. The main findings show reciprocal and contingent interactions between the dynamics of rural territories and family practices. Responses such as agroecological production, flower-growing enterprises, the intensification of non-agricultural activities or migration are ways in which households seek to maintain their ways of life. In this sense, we consider the FF category to be valid, since the activities and decision-making are carried out within a family that values ??the difficult production conditions, the risks, the aspirations of the new generations, as well as the affection and attachment they feel for the territory in which they live. |
