| 要約: | Ecuador ended 2023 as the most violent country in the region, a trend that has continued in the first two months of 2024. In this period, the country recorded 773 homicides, a figure that, although lower than the previous year, is still worrying. In this sense, this article addresses the relationship between the increase in violence in Ecuador from the perspective of drug trafficking, considering it as a partial explanation to the problem. In the first section, we propose to analyze the changing role that Ecuador has experienced in the international drug trafficking chain, through a detailed analysis of all phases of the chain with updated information. The second section explores the dynamics of violence associated with each stage, highlighting the selectivity and instrumental targets of violence in response to state measures and competition between criminal groups. Although the article recognizes that drug trafficking is not the sole cause of the increase in violence in Ecuador, its significant impact is highlighted |
