Summary:The objective of this article is to explain the Yasuní-ITT proposal and the benefits it would bring, were it to be implemented, to the natural environment of the Amazon while contributing to the protection of local inhabitants. It addition, the author charges first world countries with scant commitment to addressing ‘climate change’ and what Ecuador is sacrificing by putting forward a proposal contrary to its interests and demanding –along with other countries of the south– open and democratic negotiations.
