| Итог: | This article analyzes how class and gender violence are reproduced, establishing a dialogue between feminist theory on romantic love, as a tool for oppressing women, and Bourdieu’s theory of habitus. This study considers the literary works Los naufragios del corazón and Yeguas exhaustas to advance the following hypothesis: When the subjects of a romantic relationship have different social status, the connection will be expressed through a position in the structure that will seek to change or to maintain the social order. Social class conditions the perception of romantic love because it determines the habitus – that is, the forms in which people understand and live their relations in relation to their social origins. For Beatriz, in Yeguas exhaustas, legitimacy is shaped by effort or sacrifice, which externalizes her social position in relation to her partner. For George, the protagonist of the second novel, who is educated in legitimate culture, love is a space of recognition. One finding regarding violence is that in the first novel it is perceived as humiliation and in the second novel it appears as condescension. The conclusions examine the relations between romantic love and social domination. Romantic love must be legitimated in order to reproduce the dominant class. |
