Descripción
Summary:Hymenocallis caribaea L., commonly known as Lirio de San Juan, is a species of geophyte plant belonging to the family of amaryllidaceae, is distributed in Central America and in Cuba, and is also considered medicinal. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the acute toxicity dermal and oral aqueous and hydroalcoholic extracts from the leaves and bulbs of this plant, for their potential agro-industrial, medicinal and pharmacological use. For its scope, in vivo studies were used from Winstar rats, using a limit dose of 2000 mg/kg. The results indicated that there was a tendency to increase the weight of rats during the experiment, in addition there was no mortality or changes in behavior in animals, suggesting the absence of systemic toxic effects. Also, these results demonstrated the safety of this plant when applied acutely by the tested routes.
