Description
Résumé:This study analyzes the results of urban innovation in the appropriation of public space in Avenida 7 de Octubre in Quevedo, Ecuador. Urban regeneration interventions in this avenue modified its structure without considering the needs of the users, which generated problems of inaccessibility, climatic overexposure and deterioration of furniture. A three-phase methodology was implemented: (1) analysis of pedestrian dynamics, (2) evaluation of the physical and functional conditions of the public space, and (3) proposal of urban design guidelines. The effects indicate that the avenue doesn´t comply with habitability standards, which limits the permanence and interaction of citizens. It is concluded that urban interventions should prioritize pedestrian-centered design to encourage appropriation and sustainable use of public space.
