The work examines how the current regimes of access to land for mineral extraction along with environmental laws have provided greater power to companies so they appropriate natural resources and authority to regulatesocial demands. This fact is contrasted with the resistance of local communities which main strategy is the struggle for recognition of collective land rights. It is finally suggested that the subordination of the State to the processes of mining expansion is triggering a process of territorialization of the struggle for land, opening new horizons for political action. The empirical basis of this article corresponds to a field study conducted in rural and urban areas of the municipality of Juruti and surrounding region, in 2012. |

Para ilustrar dicho proceso se presenta el caso del proyecto minero de extracción de bauxita de la multinacional Alcoa, en el municipio de Juruti, al oeste del estado de Pará. El trabajo examina la forma mediante la cual los actuales regímenes de acceso a la tierra para la extracción del mineral y de la legislación ambiental, han dotado a las empresas de mayor poder para apropiarse de los recursos y autoridad para ejercer regulación de las demandas sociales. Este hecho es contrastado con la resistencia de las comunidades locales cuya principal estrategia es la lucha por el reconocimiento de derechos territoriales colectivos. Se sugiere que la subordinación del Estado a los procesos de expansión minera viene desencadenando un proceso de territorialización de la lucha por la tierra abriendo nuevos horizontes de acción política.
