En este trabajo nos focalizamos en el análisis y comparación de los supuestos que subyacen a dos tipos de prácticas humanas que son señaladas como antagónicas: el actual modelo denominado “extractivista” y las prácticas hegemónicas vinculadas a la conservación, en particular, las provenientes del área de la biología de la conservación. Para ello, hemos analizado tres supuestos comunes a ambas prácticas: su carácter global, la exclusión del vivir humano y la cosificación de la naturaleza. Nuestra hipótesis señala que el extractivismo y la conservación de la biodiversidad presentan pilares complementarios, referidos a la relación entre lo humano y lo ambiental así como respecto de la concepción de la Naturaleza.
