| Gaia: | Education is an integral part of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by all UN member states in 2015 as part of Agenda 2030. But education is also a powerful and fundamental tool to materialize that Agenda and all its ambitious goals. This article is a commentary on the relevance of education in sustainable development and in facing those great socio-environmental challenges that humanity is facing. The article describes three characteristics, as fundamental pillars, for education (formal, non-formal and informal) to maximize its impact and contribute to transforming our unsustainable reality; these being: a) to have a holistic and systemic vision, b) to be focused on action, c) to be modern and innovative. |
