總結:School segregation, a phenomenon whereby students are unequally distributed in schools according to their personal, cultural or social characteristics, undermines equality of opportunity and contributes to an unequal and exclusive society. The present research aims to estimate school segregation by socio-economic level in Ecuador and its provinces, and to contextualize the results with Latin American countries. To this end, secondary use is made of data from the INEVAL "Ser Estudante" and "Ser Bachiller" assessments, as well as from the UNESCO/OREALC TERCE. Gorard's index is estimated for 25% of students from families with lower socioeconomic and cultural levels (Q1) and 25% higher (Q4). The results indicate that school segregation by socio-economic level in Ecuador is 0.47 for General Basic Education centres and 0.35 for General Unified High School centres, with very significant variability between provinces. Furthermore, the value of school segregation in Ecuador is at a level close to the average for the surrounding countries. The high level of segregation found, especially in EGB and in some provinces, indicates the need to take public education policy measures that will build a more equitable education system which, in turn, will contribute to the creation of a more equitable, fair and inclusive society.
