Shrnutí:Water, a vital element in arid areas, has marked the relations between Chile and Bolivia. This article presents an analysis of the complex relations between the two countries, from the point of view of freshwater, throughout a qualitative methodology based on the review of multiples sources. With a geopolitical approach, three key moments are highlighted: the 1950 negotiation, the Lauca controversy and the discussion over the Silala River. This investigation aims to understand the relevance of water in bilateral relations, and how this element was vital in the diplomatic tensions of the twentieth century.
