Controversias y realidades de los alimentos transgénicos

RESUMEN Los avances vertiginosos de la Biotecnología, en el campo de la ingeniería y la tecnología genética, han permitido el desarrollado de los productos transgénicos. En sus inicios, los productos modificados genéticamente tenían como único objetivo obtener ventajas en las áreas de la agricultura y ganadería; posteriormente esta técnica se comenzó a aplicar para la producción de alimentos para el consumo humano. Por otro lado, se ha generado mucha controversia al respecto, sobre todo en relación a su utilización. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo recopilar y analizar información científica disponible sobre la realidad de los alimentos transgénicos para determinar los beneficios (ventajas) y potenciales riesgos (desventajas) sobre la salud humana y el medio ambiente. Palabras clave: Alimentos transgénicos; ingeniería genética; biotecnología.   ABSTRACT The vertiginous advances of Biotechnology, in the field of engineering and genetic technology, have allowed the development of transgenic products. In the beginning, genetically modified products had the sole objective of obtaining advantages in the areas of agriculture and livestock; later this technique began to be applied for the production of food for human consumption. On the other hand, much controversy has been generated in this regard, especially in relation to its use. This work aims to collect and analyze available scientific information on the reality of transgenic foods to determine the benefits (advantages) and potential risks (disadvantages) on human health and the environment.
