description In a globalized world, economies seek to boost trade relations with other countries. Such is the case of the United States, which adopts preferential systems in favor of vulnerable countries, in order to increase trade. Precisely, one of the beneficiary countries of its preferential systems was Ecuador. Regarding this, the objective was to determine the evolution of the Preferential Trade Agreements granted by the United States to Ecuador. The scientific methods used were historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive. For the theoretical information search, databases such as Dialnet, EBSCO, Redalyc, Scielo, REDIB, among others, were accessed. The United States International Trade Commission [USITC] program was used for the collection of statistical data. As a result, from 1976 to 2020 Ecuador was a beneficiary of three Preferential Trade Agreements by the United States. This was: the Generalized System of Preference (GSP), the Andean Trade Preference Act (ATPA) and the Andean Tariff Preferences and Drug Eradication Act (ATPDEA), which have positively influenced Ecuadorian exports. It is concluded that, once the tariff benefits of these Preferential Trade Agreements were completed, Ecuador was at a competitive disadvantage compared to its neighboring countries.

It is concluded that, once the tariff benefits of these Preferential Trade Agreements were completed, Ecuador was at a competitive disadvantage compared to its neighboring countries. Universidad UTE2023-01-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionPeer-reviewedEvaluado por paresapplication/pdftext/htmlhttps://revistas.ute.edu.ec/index.php/economia-y-negocios/article/view/107210.29019/eyn.v14i1.1072Economía y Negocios; Vol. 14 No. 1 (2023): Journal Economía y Negocios (January - June 2023); 115-134Economía y Negocios; Vol. 14 Núm. 1 (2023): Revista Economía y Negocios (Enero - Junio 2023); 115-1342602-805010.29019/eyn.v14i1reponame:Revistas Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccialinstname:Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccialinstacron:UTEspahttps://revistas.ute.edu.ec/index.php/economia-y-negocios/article/view/1072/913https://revistas.ute.edu.ec/index.php/economia-y-negocios/article/view/1072/914Derechos de autor 2023 Los Autoreshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-09-19T20:10:30Zoai:ojs.ute.edu.ec:article/1072Institucionalhttps://www.ute.edu.ec/revistas-ute/Universidad privadahttps://www.ute.edu.ec/..Ecuador.1390-65421390-6542opendoar:02025-02-07T20:36:26.397234Revistas Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial - Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccialtrue
