Study of Costs Related to Labor Accidents in the Metropolitan Public Company of Drinking Water and Sanitation of Quito. Period 2010 - 2015

This paper performs an analysis of occupational accidents to workers and employees of the EPMAPS. The data used were provided by the company and corresponds to a total of 103 accidents in the period from January 1, 2010 until December 31, 2015, based on the accident notifications referred to the IESS. The study is based on a descriptive statistical analysis of the main variables such as age, length of service, among others (Ramírez, 2011), in order to determine the direct, indirect and total costs of work accidents occurred in the observed period. This will allow us to analyze that the so-called “costs” incurred by the company in the security management system, actually constitute an investment, by the quantification of economic resources and time in the performance of the functions of the workers in their work activities that could be saved by the implementation of an occupational safety management system.
