Sumario:For François Houtart, a theologian, a sociologist and a global activist, the religious and the social commitments cannot be dissociated, neither way the analysis of social reality with the social struggles for its transformation. This article analyzes the main axes of François Houtart's contributions to the contemporary social sciences, since the convictions that guided his compromise as sociologist with the other social actors. The first part is a briefing of his career and his contribution to the theology of liberation.  The second part emphasizes the forerunner role of François Houtar in the social sciences. Particularly, in the dialogue with the epistemologies of the South while he invite us to analyze the world, the mechanisms of oppression and the emancipations projects from the perspectives of the social actors and the oppressed of the planet, according to the "other globalization" approach.
