Тойм:This article aims to makes a survey of studies on protests expressed in social movements or other forms of collective actions in Brazil over the last five decades mapping their diversity, thematic, theoretical-methodological paradigms that substantiate them, categories and their authors. It recovers the construction, transformation and diversification of the actions and the theories that has supported its analyses, according to moments of the historical-political situation of the country. As a result, the data were grouped in five different historical-political cycles: 1st-in the decade of 1970; 2nd-democratic transition of the years 1980; 3rd post-Constitution of 1988; 4th-Decade of 2000 and, 5th-Post June 2013. These cycles have been analyzed according to five blocks of theories: Neo Marxists, culturalists or identity, institutionalists, autonomists and neoliberals. It is inquired as the events of protests and theories have influenced, informed and oriented Brazilian production on social movements over nearly five decades.   Keywords: Social Movements, Collective Actions, Theoretical Approaches
