Effect of immersion and substrate on germination and root length in moringa

In order to quantify the variables initial germination (GIN), final germination (GFI), germination speed index (IVG) and radicle length (LRA) of moringa, varieties "Supergenius" and "Criolla", with immersion in water for 12h, or without immersion, placed on absorbent paper substr...

description In order to quantify the variables initial germination (GIN), final germination (GFI), germination speed index (IVG) and radicle length (LRA) of moringa, varieties "Supergenius" and "Criolla", with immersion in water for 12h, or without immersion, placed on absorbent paper substrates and / or washed river sand, a trial was installed where the treatments come from the factorial arrangement 23, in the randomized block design, with four repetitions. A tray with 50 seeds per experimental unit and 16 aluminum trays per substrate. Quantifications were carried out between 5 and 8 days after burial and their values were interpreted by disaggregation and Tukey's test at 5% probability. The GIN in the paper substrate was higher for "Supergenius", although in sand, both varieties were identical. There were no differences between substrates in the presence or absence of immersion, although the GIN in sand was higher for the seeds treated with immersion. The GFI; it was superior in “Supergenius”, and similarly for IVG, “Supergenius” differs from “Criolla”, with a higher index; similarly when they are subjected to an immersion process, "Supergenius" has a higher germination speed index, and the immersion process accelerates that value.  The seeds subjected to immersion, for the LRA variable, presented greater length and it was the paper substrate where those greater values were observed. To evaluate germination in moringa seeds, it is pertinent to immerse them for 12 hours and use paper as a support substrate.
