Samenvatting:The aim of this study was to raise considerations about workforce planning activities at hotels in the province of Manabí. We present a tool for diagnosing workforce planning in hotels. The tool involved the constitution of a qualified work team, characterization of the scope of the study, and detailed specifications concerning human resource departments. Afterwards, the strategic workforce planning was analyzed by considering internal and external variables through a SWOT analysis, which was performed by previously selected experts who identified the current situation and level of development in human resource planning at the hotels. Our results have been important for effective and operative human resource planning at hotels at major tourist attractions in Manabí. Furthermore, hotels in the area are in need of integral and systematic human resource management, where the role of human resource planning is determinant for a transformation in methods as well as thoughts, for developing actions to obtain better results based not only on the managers’ intuition, as has occurred traditionally.
