| description | The aim of this study was to raise considerations about workforce planning activities at hotels in the province of Manabí. Afterwards, the strategic workforce planning was analyzed by considering internal and external variables through a SWOT analysis, which was performed by previously selected experts who identified the current situation and level of development in human resource planning at the hotels. Our results have been important for effective and operative human resource planning at hotels at major tourist attractions in Manabí. Furthermore, hotels in the area are in need of integral and systematic human resource management, where the role of human resource planning is determinant for a transformation in methods as well as thoughts, for developing actions to obtain better results based not only on the managers’ intuition, as has occurred traditionally. |

Se presentó la propuesta de una herramienta para el diagnóstico de la planificación de recursos humanos en entidades hoteleras, que tomó en cuenta la conformación de un equipo de trabajo especializado, una caracterización general del objeto de estudio y de manera específica o detallada del área de recursos humanos. Seguido a esto, se analiza la planificación de recursos humanos, tomando en cuenta factores internos y externos, basándose específicamente en un análisis DAFO ponderado con el criterio de expertos previamente seleccionados y la determinación del estado actual o nivel de desarrollo de la planificación de Recursos Humanos en los hoteles. Los resultados del presente trabajo han sido importantes para la planificación de recursos humanos de forma eficaz y operativa en los hoteles que integran el sistema turístico de Manabí.
