description | The objective of this study was to find and compile ancestral knowledge of medicinal plants used to treat livestock diseases. Ethnoveterinary knowledge related to the use of botanical resources in Manabí northern area, Ecuador, was identified through interviews and surveys of 225 producers, analyzed using the SPSSV21 program. The average age of the respondents was 47 years, 51.56% correspond to the male sex, the schooling is medium level (56.44%), in the search 53.34% are dedicated to bovine and poultry production, and 49.33% of them have access to veterinary assistance. The equivalent of 83.33% know the meaning of ancestral knowledge and the most used plants are Allium sativum, Citrus x limon, Matricaria chamomilla, Chenopodium ambrosioides and Origanum vulgare, meanwhile, Ruta graveolens, Azadarichta indica and Aloe vera are highly valued locally for the control and treatment of conditions caused by parasites, digestive problems and respiratory conditions. These species have a high medicinal potential, show wide acceptance, application and multiple forms of preparation and administration. There is a need to preserve the knowledge about the use of medicinal plants in Manabí north-central area for future generations and incorporate it into existing livestock health services. |

El objetivo de este estudio fue encontrar y compilar conocimientos ancestrales de plantas medicinales utilizadas para tratar enfermedades del ganado. Se identificó conocimientos etnoveterinarios relacionados con el uso de recursos botánicos en la zona norte de Manabí, Ecuador; a través de entrevistas y encuestas a 225 productores, analizadas, usando el programa SPSSV21. La edad promedio de los encuestados fue de 47 años, un 51,56% corresponden al sexo masculino, la escolaridad es de nivel medio (56,44%). En la búsqueda el 53,34% se dedican a la producción bovina y avícola, y 49,33% de ellos tienen acceso a la asistencia veterinaria. El equivalente de 83,33% conocen el significado de saberes ancestrales y las plantas más usadas son Allium sativum, Citrus x limon, Matricaria chamomilla, Chenopodium ambrosioides y Origanum vulgare, mientras tanto, Ruta graveolens, Azadarichta indica y Aloe vera son muy valoradas localmente para el control y tratamiento de afecciones provocadas por parásitos, problemas digestivos y afecciones respiratorias. Estas especies tienen un alto potencial medicinal, muestran una amplia aceptación, aplicación y múltiples formas de preparación y administración.
