In contrast, T4 showed the lowest yield (23,497 kg ha-1) and lowest profitability ($0.88). These results confirm that planting density directly influences the productivity and economic efficiency of the crop. A density of 1.0 m × 0.8 m is considered optimal, as it maximized yield and profitability while maintaining a balance between competition for resources and space utilization. This management approach represents a viable and sustainable alternative for optimizing the commercial production of the local Valenciana variety under the tropical conditions of Manabí. |

Se aplicó un diseño completamente al azar con cuatro tratamientos: T1 (1,0 m × 0,8 m), T2 (1,0 m × 1,0 m), T3 (1,0 m × 1,2 m) y T4 (1,0 m × 1,4 m), cada uno con cinco repeticiones. Las variables evaluadas fueron altura de planta, diámetro del tallo, número raíces tuberosas, peso promedio de raíces tuberosas y rendimiento por hectárea. La época de evaluación correspondió al periodo de estiaje, caracterizado por escasez de agua, comprendido entre los meses de julio y diciembre. Los resultados mostraron diferencias significativas (p < 0,05) entre tratamientos. El tratamiento T1 obtuvo la mayor altura promedio (3,68 m), diámetro del tallo (3,71 cm), número de raíces tuberosa (9,01) y rendimiento (48 272 kg.ha-1), además del mejor índice beneficio/costo (1,44). En contraste, T4 presentó el rendimiento más bajo (23 497 kg.ha-1) y menor rentabilidad ($0,88). Estos resultados confirman que la densidad de siembra influye directamente en la productividad y eficiencia económica del cultivo. La densidad de 1,0 m × 0,8 m se considera óptima, ya que maximizó el rendimiento y la rentabilidad, manteniendo un equilibrio entre la competencia por recursos y el aprovechamiento del espacio.
