Crynodeb: | The effect of the exchange rates on the physical-chemical characteristics of the water, productive performance and growth adjustment model of juvenile red tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) was evaluated. Fifteen 53 L aquariums with 10 juveniles each were used under the following treatments; water exchange 25% daily, 50% every 7 days and without replacement, each treatment with 5 replicates, in the completely randomized design. The aquariums were filled with water from the laboratory's fish culture tanks. 150 juveniles between 6 and 8 cm in total length were used, fed at a rate of 8% of the biomass. The fish were randomly distributed in groups of ten per aquarium or experimental unit. The variables mass and total length were quantified; the temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, non-ionized ammonium and nitrates in the aquarium water were measured and their values compared by the LSD test (p≤0.05); similarly, the degree of fit of the mass and length was evaluated with different growth models. It was concluded that the daily change of 25% of the water favored the growth of the red tilapia juveniles, in mass and final length of 12,16 g and 8,81 cm, respectively. Likewise, in this treatment, the lowest average values of temperature and nitrates were observed, and the highest values of dissolved oxygen and non-ionized ammonium. The exponential model presented the best fit for the mass and total length of the red tilapia juveniles |
