সংক্ষিপ্ত: | Livestock farming and agriculture are predominant activities that define the identity of southern Campeche as a region. Since their establishment, these activities have exerted pressure on forest cover due to deforestation. The objective of this research was to conduct a literature review to understand the importance of agroforestry and the role of multipurpose trees as an alternative to mitigate the environmental issues caused by agricultural activities. The methodological approach aims to describe the significance of agroforestry and multipurpose trees as a development factor for communities in southern Campeche, addressing the following questions: Why is agroforestry a viable option for areas where vegetation has been deforested? Why is the multipurpose tree the central element of agroforestry that mitigates the impacts of land-use change on vegetation? What is the relationship between agroforestry and rural development? Agroforestry serves as a means to restore lost forest cover due to land-use changes, with the multipurpose tree as its core element. From an economic perspective, increasing the elements within an agroforestry system diversifies production, leading to improved profitability. Multipurpose trees help farmers reduce production costs. It is concluded that agroforestry is a viable productive alternative; however, it must be addressed from a multidisciplinary perspective, as it encompasses both qualitative and quantitative research fields. Keywords: agroforestry, agroforestry systems, alternatives to development. |
