Effect of seed populations and guide length on yield of camote varieties

Ամփոփում:This study evaluated the production of foliage and number of commercial roots in two camote varieties (Ipomoea batatas L.) toquecita brought in from Peru, which are classified as ̈promising varieties ̈ at the Estación Experimental Portoviejo of INIAP and Guayaco Morado, and mostly commercialized by farmers. We tested two guide lengths (0.10; 0.30 m) and four population arrangements (25 000, 33 333, 50 000, 66 666 plantas.ha-1). The experiment was conducted in two places of the Ecuadorian coastline (San Eloy, Municipality of Rocafuerte, Province of Manabí and El Salado, Municipality of Santa Elena, Province of Santa Elena) using a Randomized Complete Block design with factors 2x2x4, 16 treatments and 3 repetitions per location. Our results found that the Toquecita variety had the best yield results (42,9 t.ha-1), with a 0.30 m guide length and a population arrangement consisting of 66 666 plants.ha-1 (0,30 x1,00 m; 2 guides/site), while in San Eloy, the Toquecita variety also produced outstanding results 47,1 t.ha-1, with the same plant density, but with a guide length of 0.10 m. We concluded that in both locations, the toquecita variety obtained the best root and foliage production, possibly influenced by the high population density, without guide length affecting them.
