A randomized complete block design with six treatments and three replicates was applied in a factorial arrangement. The factors subject of study were sowing systems (hand and ploughed), sowing density (0,40; 0,70 y 0,90 m between rows). The assessed variables were: length and depth of the wet bulb, root system development, as well as a set of morpho-physiological and yield variables. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was carried out through the statistical package StatGraphics Centurion XV.II v16.1.18 and means were compared with Tukey (p<0,05). Wet bulb reached with localized irrigation ensured appropriate conditions for the development of the root system of the plants sown both ploughed and without ploughed. Sowing density has a significant effect on plants length. Sowing systems and densities had a significant influence on the yield of hybrid mayze AGRI 104. |

La investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el comportamiento productivo del maíz (Zea mays L.) híbrido AGRI 104 con diferentes densidades y sistema de siembra bajo condiciones de riego localizado. La investigación se realizó en el campus experimental La Teodomira de la Facultad de Ingeniería Agronómica de la Universidad Técnica de Manabí, Ecuador, entre los meses de julio y diciembre del 2016. Se empleó un diseño de bloques completos al azar, con seis tratamientos y tres repeticiones, en un arreglo bifactorial. Los factores estudiados fueron el sistema de siembra (superficial y con surcado) y la densidad de siembra, (0,40; 0,70 y 0,90 m entre hileras). Las variables evaluadas fueron: longitud y profundidad del bulbo húmedo, desarrollo del sistema radical, así como un conjunto de variables morfofisiológicas y de producción. Se realizó un análisis de varianza (ANOVA) mediante el paquete estadístico StatGraphics Centurión XV. II v16.1.18 y las medias se compararon con la prueba de Tukey (p<0,05). El bulbo húmedo alcanzado con el sistema de riego localizado garantizó una zona adecuada para el desarrollo del sistema radicular de las plantas sembradas con y sin surcado. La densidad de siembra tuvo un efecto significativo en la altura de las plantas.
