description We evaluated the effect of three different levels of water application on Aleman grass (Echinoclhoa polystachya L). In all treatments, ETc was replaced every day resulting in the following treatments: T1=100%, T2= 80% and T3= 50% from the total replacement level, plus a control treatment without irrigation. There were five replicates. We used the randomized complete block design (RCB). The experimental unit consisted of a 4 m 2 plot cultivated with Aleman grass. We used morphological and bromatological characteristics as the dependent variables. The morphological data were collected at days 10, 20 and 45 after pruning, while the bromatological information was taken at day 45. The results showed statistical differences among treatments and variables. Stem thickness and length showed differences at days 20 and 45, increasing according to the water application level. The smallest average value of leaf width and length was that of the control treatment in all replicates. Biomass production was the highest in T1 and T2 (3.27 y 2.88 kg.m2, respectively). T3 and the control treatments produced the lowest yield (1.92 and 1.53 kg.m-2) indicating that water application played a significant role in growth and productivity; with humidity directly affecting growth. The bromatological variables showed statistical differences (p<0.05), however, this was not consistent with biomass values.

The bromatological variables showed statistical differences (p<0.05), however, this was not consistent with biomass values.
