description This research aimed to determine the response of fresh tuberous roots yield of three varieties of sweet potato (Toquecita, Guayaco morado and Pedrito), vine cuttings with different lengths (10 and 30 cm) were planted, with and without leaves pruning 30 days before harvesting. The study was carried out in Correagua, parish of Charapotó in the province of Manabí-Ecuador. The experimental design was 3x2x2 factorial arrangement fitted into randomized complete block design with three replications. Foliage yield, number and yield of marketable roots were statistically analyzed. It was concluded that, in spite of the non-existence of statistical differences among varieties regarding the analyzed variables, the variety Toquecita with vines of 10cm and without pruning stands out throughout the crop cycle. Nevertheless, it should be considered that the average of the marketable root weight increases whit vines of 30cm and without pruning (265g).

El presente estudio tuvo como propósito, determinar la respuesta en rendimiento de raíces tuberosas frescas de tres variedades de camote (Toquecita, Guayaco morado y Pedrito), sembradas con diferentes longitud de guías (10 y 30 cm) y con poda foliar o no a los 30 días antes de la cosecha. El sitio de la investigación fue Correagua, parroquia Charapotó, provincia de Manabí-Ecuador. Se utilizó el Diseño de Bloques Completos al Azar en arreglo factorial de 3x2x2, con tres repeticiones. Se analizaron estadísticamente las variables rendimiento de follaje, número y rendimiento de raíces comerciales. Se concluye en este estudio, que a pesar de no existir diferencias estadísticas entre los materiales de siembra respecto a las variables analizadas, sobresale la variedad Toquecita sembrada con guías de 10 cm de longitud y sin poda durante el ciclo del cultivo. Sin embargo, es de considerar que el peso promedio de las raíces comerciales es mejor cuando se siembran guías de 30 cm de longitud y sin poda de follaje (265 g).
