En un contexto en el que la conflictividad laboral desató huelgas y protestas, los directores y administradores de la fábrica intentaron controlar a la mano de obra mediante la aplicación de preceptos que provenían de la acción social católica y del pensamiento de Jacinto Jijón, su propietario.
