The sculpture’s semantics is analyzed based on the values associated with masculine standards and the anti-communist ritual, two factors of the discursive support by way of the authoritative voices of archbishops, mayors, and heads of State which promoted the placing of such a statue. In addition, a discussion of the dissident voices who resisted this discourse in the context of the Cold War and in defense of their own identities is offered.
