Resumo:In the centenary of the death of Uruguayan writer José Enrique Rodó, the author recalls the relationship he had with the Ecuadorian writer and polemicist Juan Montalvo. He presents them both as the most outstanding writers of the 19th century in their respective countries, as paradigmatic examples of the intellectual committed to his time. He delves into the thinking of these authors who have unique validity in our days. A demystifying and exalting essay, in turn, of the life and work of these brilliant Latin American authors who died far from their countries, in poverty and oblivion.
