סיכום:This article examines the monument to the Battle of May 2 in the context of the postwar geopolitical strategy of the Americas with respect to Spain. The formal features of the monument are analyzed, along with the urban space in which it was erected a few years after Lima’s fortified walls dating back to the Viceroy’s reign began to be brought down. The monument was not only installed to pay tribute to the clashes between the Peruvian Army and the Spanish Navy, but also to highlight and project worldwide the idea of the union of the Americas against any further attempt of invasion by Spain.
